Course dates

Tuesday 4th November- 9th December- 6pm-9pm

Course Overview:
Discover the joy of working with clay in this hands-on beginner pottery course. Perfect for those new to ceramics, this class will introduce you to essential hand building techniques and surface decoration methods. Over the duration of the course, you’ll explore the creative process from start to finish—forming, decorating, and glazing your own functional and decorative pieces.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Pinch Pots: Get started with the basics of shaping clay using just your hands to create simple forms.
  • Coiling: Learn how to build a small vessel using traditional coiling techniques.
  • Slab Work: Practice rolling and preparing clay slabs, and experiment with surface design using slips and stencils. You’ll use these techniques to create a small slab-built piece like a mug.
  • Larger Slab Construction: Use pre-prepared slabs to build a more complex or larger ceramic form, focusing on structure and design.
  • Surface Decoration & Glazing: Finish your pieces with underglazes, oxides, stains, and a selection of glazes to add colour and texture.
  • Wheel taster if time allows –

By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of unique handmade items and a solid foundation in hand building pottery. All materials and tools are provided—just bring your creativity!
