Your Course
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the expressive potential of pattern in clay through the use of coloured clays and hand-building techniques.
The session begins with a short illustrated talk in which Ben shares the story of his practice—his inspirations, the evolution of his ideas, and the development of his unique approach to working with clay. Drawing on traditional nerikomi/neriage techniques, Ben demonstrates how carefully prepared ‘sandwiches’ of coloured and tonal clay layers can be altered in three dimensions and sliced to reveal striking and unexpected patterns.
Participants will see how these patterns can be integrated into vessel forms using a range of hand-building methods. Ben will guide the group step-by-step as they experiment with coloured clays, encouraging individual creativity while offering technical support. Each participant will create their own patterned piece—whether a pinch pot, coil pot, slab pot, or a combination of these approaches.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of pattern-making with coloured clays and will take home a unique hand-built pot that reflects their personal exploration of the technique.
Spaces are limited to ensure personalised instruction.
