Your Course
This three-day, hands-on workshop explores the making of expressive, slip-decorated tableware using heavily grogged clays, including both coarse and regular raku bodies. Working from small functional wares to large statement pieces, participants will develop skills in throwing, trimming, and surface decoration while learning to handle challenging clay bodies with confidence.
-
Day 1: Focus on throwing small, functional forms such as cups, bowls, and side plates, with an emphasis on structure and form.
-
Day 2: Move into throwing larger statement pieces—serving platters, jars, and vases—while also trimming and refining work made on Day 1.
-
Day 3: Complete and enhance your work with finishing techniques and slip decoration, developing personal approaches to pattern, texture, and surface design.
By the end of the course, participants will have created a collection of pieces that range from intimate, everyday ware to bold centerpiece forms, gaining both technical confidence and a deeper understanding of slip as a decorative medium.
