Abstracting the Landscape at The Waldron

This two-day immersive course would suit you if you have an interest in Abstracting from the landscape. Helping you to move freely between reality and Abstraction. Providing exercises to help move your landscape work on. Drawing freely from the immediate environment, experimenting with colour and by helping you focus to look closely, encouraging a personal response to the outside.

Helping you to gain confidence with drawing plein air and capturing a particular moment or breaking down the landscape, and its views, into a series of smaller works.

Day One

10 am to 4.30pm

Working in black and white

Introduction and finding out what charcoal can do, then for the morning we will be out drawing from the landscape, fields and beautiful barns that make up the Waldron estate. Using different techniques and materials in black and white.

These investigations and findings will be taken on into monochrome studies in a mixed media approach in the afternoon.

We will start to think about a limited palette.

Day Two

10am to 4.30pm

Moving into Colour

Revisiting our drawings from the previous day we will take our findings into colour. Using collage and acrylic paints we can start to focus on making a series of smaller mixed media works to capture the feel of where we are. Combining different views and overlaying collage to help achieve a personal response to our environment.

Throughout the two days there will be group discussions, demonstrations, one to one advice and a group warm up project.

All materials are provided.
