Your Course
By the end of the two days you will have designed, made and decorated an animal of your choice that will be standing on a base with wheels.
Louise will introduce you to her work and will demonstrate the techniques that she uses to create an animal and a stand with wheels. She will guide you during the design stage and bring images that can be used for inspiration. Students are also encouraged to bring their own ideas and images.
You will develop your hand building skills by making a combination of pinch pots, hollow tubes and coils. You will be shown how to alter and join these components to form your animal. You will also be shown how to make a stand with wheels using small slabs.
You will have the opportunity to decorate your work using white slip and sgraffito (etching through the slip).
Day one: Louise will start the workshop by giving a short slide show to introduce herself as an artist.
Louise will then give a demonstration showing how she designs her work. She will show students the hand building techniques she uses for different shapes – including pinch pots, hollow tubes, slabs and joining using coils.
Students will then design their pieces using images as inspiration and with guidance from Louise. The finish outcome will be an animal of their choice that will stand on wheels.
Students will roll out the slabs for the base of their piece and will start to work on their chosen animal figure with support from Louise.
Day two: Louise will demonstrate decorating using sgraffito – applying slip and etching a design through it, and will provide a demonstration on how to make a base with wheels.
Students will then make their wheels and complete their animals
