Your Course
This workshop is an exceptional opportunity to learn directly from Maya, whose teaching style reflects her passion for functional and beautifully crafted ceramics. Whether you’re looking to refine your foundational skills or scale up your throwing abilities, this masterclass will leave you inspired and equipped with new techniques to elevate your practice.
In this intensive two-day throwing workshop, you’ll focus on strengthening your foundational throwing skills while scaling up and shaping a variety of forms. Maya’s expertise in creating dynamic and organic shapes will guide your exploration of medium to large-scale pieces.
Day One:
Begin by throwing tall cylinders as a foundation for shaping. Move on to crafting diverse forms, including jugs, bowls, and lidded jars. Maya will teach essential throwing techniques for creating these shapes and provide hands-on guidance to help you achieve confidence on the wheel.
Day Two:
Finish and refine your pieces from the first day, with a focus on trimming and adding pulled handles directly from pots. Maya will also share tips on achieving balance and proportion, ensuring your creations are both functional and visually striking.
Participants must be able to centre 1kg of clay, as the workshop will focus on medium to large-scale throwing.
This is more than just a technical workshop—it’s an invitation to dive deeper into the artistry of ceramics under the guidance of Maya Hughes. You’ll leave with improved skills, newfound confidence, and a deeper appreciation for the creative potential of clay.
