Title: Tebineri – exploring Japanese Hand-building
This is a two-day workshop which gives you an opportunity to explore hand-building (Tebineri) techniques with Japanese tips!
You will experience Spiral wedging (Kikuneri) and make pinching (Tama-tsukuri) tea bowl and tea cup, create slabs from hump of clay and make two organic shape dishes without using moulds (Tatara-tsukuri). You will also learn how to create little boxes by hollowing clay (Kurinuki).
All hand-building techniques will be taught with slightly different approach, along with some tips commonly used in Japan.
You will use Japanese straw brush (Hōkibake) and/or soft wide brush (Hake) to create Hakeme and/or Kohiki decoration with white slip, which will occur by your spontaneous hand movement, after creating all forms.
Through this course, you can explore your creative ideas in clay and decoration as well as develop your hand-building skills.
