Wayne Clark- Form, Surface & Scale
£500.00
Dates:
22 October, 2027 - 24 October, 2027
This three-day intensive course takes learners from surface experimentation to the construction of ambitious, large-scale ceramic forms. Combining wheel-throwing with hand-building, it explores how thrown elements can be altered, sectioned and assembled into expressive constructed works.

Your course
Day 1: Surface Exploration, Mark Making and Throwing
Learners will investigate a range of surface exploration and mark-making techniques while developing wheel-throwing skills. Through experimentation with texture, pattern, and tool application, participants will consider how surface treatments can enhance and inform ceramic forms.
Day 2: Large-Scale Throwing for Hand-Built Construction
Learners will develop techniques for producing large-scale thrown forms that can be altered, sectioned, and combined as components for hand-built construction. The session will focus on scale, structural considerations, and creating forms that provide a foundation for more ambitious constructed ceramic works.
Day 3: Large-Scale Construction and Thick Slip Application
Drawing on techniques developed during the previous sessions, learners will construct large-scale ceramic forms using hand-building methods and thrown components. Emphasis will be placed on the application of thick slips and expressive surface treatments to create texture, depth, and visual impact.
